City discourages motorcades amid high prices of gasoline

-

To lessen the effect of high prices of gasoline to the public, the Cebu City government has discouraged the holding of motorcades except for funeral processions, according to Mayor Tomas Osmeña.

Osmeña, in an interview with reporters, said the city will not grant anymore permits for motorcades, including the “recoreda” or the promotion of a certain product around the city.

“We will not approve any motorcades in the city except for funeral because of the fuel prices, I think it is in bad taste to do something like that,” Osmeña said.

The mayor said the decision was made amid the rising prices of gasoline and diesel. He said this is one of the austerity measures that the city has agreed to undertake to save from the high costs of fuel.

“I think it is the role of the government to take steps to promote fuel conservation and we should discourage the public from even trying to have their own motorcade,” he said.

Osmeña said the suspension of permits will take effect immediately until the energy crisis is over.

The suspension came following several requests for mayor’s permit for motorcades around the city, most of which are for product promotions.
