Taiheiyo donates cement for Capitol school projects

-

The Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. has once again extended help to the Cebu provincial government’s school building program.

An agreement, which was signed by the two parties, will give the province about 39,000 bags of cement to reaffirm Taiheiyo’s “act of goodwill and social responsibility to the Cebuanos.”

Taiheiyo chief executive officer Toshio Komatsu said that “we extend our sincere commitment to the cause of education through our second round of cement donation. By helping in the transformation of the present, we endeavor to help in the creation of the future, and a good future for that matter.”

The new batch of cement bags will be used for the construction of additional 130 units of two-classroom school buildings.

Taiheiyo is one of the corporations that are vigorous in corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs. With its mission to build better communities, Taiheiyo has implemented sustainable projects through involving itself in infrastructure development programs through cement donations.  For Cebu, Taiheiyo donates cement for the construction of school buildings.

In February 2007, Taiheiyo and the province signed an agreement for a donation of 25,000 bags of cement.

Because of the donations, the cost that is supposed to be spent on cement was used to build more classrooms, resulting in a total number of 71 classrooms constructed by the end of 2007.

In response to the generosity extended by the company, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said, “we have mistakenly thought that private business was only after its private property. But this private company with a big heart is practicing not just in words but in deeds corporate social responsibility.”  The signing of the agreement was witnessed by Taiheiyo Cement Philippines senior vice president Takahiko Imechi and Cebu Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez, Jr. — Garry B.
