The Cebu provincial government has already started its preparations for its 439th founding anniversary on August 6.
Aside from nightly entertainments, events to be held are trade fair to highlight delicacies, crafts and products from towns and component cities; presentation of Garbo sa Sugbu awardees, and the launching of the provincial museum located at the old Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center on M.J. Cuenco Avenue.
However, Ian Fresnido, Capitol consultant on interior design, said that they have yet to finalize the theme for the anniversary as Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia is still in Europe for an official trip.
”We want something that would make the people conscious of what we are now,” he said.
Mayors from the different municipalities and component cities will join the governor for the flag raising ceremony at the Capitol grounds and for the raising of colors of these towns and cities to mark the opening of the celebration.
A medical mission will also be conducted to be highlighted by a bloodletting activity, as well as the “dayon-dayon” volleyball cup and a dama (board game) competition.
Garcia is also expected to plant a tree at the Capitol grounds and grace the opening of the anniversary bazaar at the Cebu International Convention Center.
Above all, the towns and component cities will compete in the annual Festival of Festivals. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/MEEV
