Body of missing woman found inside water tank

-

The decomposing body of a woman, who was reported missing for three days, was found and retrieved yesterday from a concrete water tank on top of the nearby building, on Llorente Street in barangay Capitol Site, where she worked as a househelp.

Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection retrieval team, led by SFO4 Bernardo del Mar, had to use harnesses and ropes to take the body of 27-year-old Justina Quevedo out of the tank.

Police said Quevedo, a native of barangay Naljub in Dalaguete, worked as stay-in househelp for Ester Ong in the adjacent building where the body was found.

Homicide policeman, PO1 Michael Codaste, told The FREEMAN that Quevedo was last seen by her co-workers last Monday afternoon and since then they have not seen her anymore. They started searching for her and informed her brother Rogelio in Mandaue City about it.

A 17-year-old co-worker of Quevedo said he was among those who were looking for her, and it was he who also decided to check the rooftop after occupants of the buildings complained of foul smell emanating from there.

The teenager said that when he reached the rooftop, he noticed that the cover of their neighbor’s water tank was partially opened and was reeking with foul odor. He decided to check the content of the tank and was surprised to see the dead body of a woman floating in the water of the tank.

The BFP team encountered difficulties in extracting Quevedo’s cadaver from the tank because the only available opening was about two feet wide, fit only for a moderately-built woman to enter.

Based on the condition of the body, the police believed that Quevedo died on Monday. Homicide investigators requested for an autopsy of the body even if they also found no external injuries that would suggest foul play. — Edwin Ian Melecio/RAE
