2 men caught for taking parts from CPPO truck
Two men were arrested for stealing parts from a 6x6 truck parked in the Cebu Provincial Police Headquarters early morning yesterday.
Now detained in the Mabolo police station detention cell are Christopher Lopez Mejares, a resident of Sibonga town,
The suspects were arrested by PO2 Abraham de Jesus who is assigned at the camp gate. De Jesus happened to conduct a perimeter patrol when he came upon Mejares and Santo placing the truck parts in a green passenger jeepney with plate number GWB-271 parked nearby.
Also arrested was Santo’s son who is a minor. But instead of detaining him, the police just turned him over to his mother, Jasmine, for custody.
The recovered stolen truck parts included the muffler, radiator, motor starter and propeller shaft. The police also impounded the jeepney driven by Sato.
Nathan Alao, the owner and operator of the impounded jeepney, said that Mejares admitted to the allegations and said Sato did not know of his intention to steal the parts.
“Kana si Allan ako na siyang driver, ako ra man gud ning ipadala akong sakyanan sa iyaha kay dugay na lagi ni siyang nag-drive. Unya kay miingon man daw na si Christopher nga iyang pakyawon ang iyang sakyanan, mao nang misugot ra pud siya,” Alao said.
In a separate interview with The Freeman, Supt. Erson Digal, the deputy director for operations of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, said he already directed the officer-in-charge of the camp not to allow civilians to enter the premises during weekends.
It has been observed that every Saturdays and Sundays, outsiders come into the compound to play basketball.
“Tungod nianing insidente, dili na namo tugutan nga ang mga civilians mosulod sa kampo aron magdula. Kini aron malikayan ang sunod pang mga hitabo ilabi na aning kawat. Wala kita makahibalo nga basin kita lang pud ang gibantayan aron makahigayon sila og pangawat,” Digal said. — Garry B. Lao/BRP
