Man caught for drugs, another for theft try

Authorities operating in barangay Camputhaw yesterday arrested a man for alleged possession of illegal drugs and another for reportedly stealing a parked motorcycle.

The first to be arrested was Dick Dinglasa Bejec, 33, a resident of sitio Purok 3 of the barangay, who was caught in possession of a plastic packet containing suspected shabu.

The police roving patrol, led by SPO1 Vicente Espenido, was first approached by a resident who told them about a man who was showing to the public the plastic packet with the suspected shabu.

The policemen then arrested Bejec and detained him in the city jail.  He was later indicted for possession of illegal drugs in violation of Section 11 of Article 2 of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The item seized from his possession was sent to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory for examination and confirmation..

The second to be arrested, at around 10:30 p.m. in San Jose Ext. of the same barangay, was 32-year-old Albert Tabanao, a resident of barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City, who was caught in the act of stealing a blue Yamaha Krypton motorcycle that was parked outside the office of the victim.

The City Police Theft and Robbery Section said that the victim, Joseph Gomez, 25, a resident of Camputhaw, parked his motorcycle then went inside his office.

Later he saw the suspect trying to hotwire his motorcycle and immediately called the police.

Tabanao tried to flee when the policemen arrived but he was arrested and is now detained in the city jail.  Rizzi Ann C. Cerera, UP Tacloban intern/RAE
