Former Mandaue City College president Paulus Mariae Cañete is claiming Gavino Cabahug, the person who claimed Cañete hired him to steal documents at the Mandaue City College and kill Mayor Jonas Cortes, is a police asset hired to frame him.
Cañete, in an interview over dyLA, proclaimed his innocence from the charges hurled against him by Mandaue City Police. Cañete said he is willing to submit himself to a polygraph examination to back up his claim of innocence.
He likewise challenged Cabahug to take the lie detector test.
Cañete denied knowing and meeting Cahahug prior to the supposed entrapment operation last Thursday.
He said while he was parking, he was surprised when Cabahug, allegedly from the police van, suddenly entered his car. The police followed and surrounded them and placed all of them under arrest for alleged illegal possession of firearms.
Cañete said Cabahug brought the alleged firearm confiscated from his possession inside his car.
“Kauban man to siya sa mga polis,” Cañete said.
“Gusto gyud nila nga madautan ko aron matangtang gyud ko isip presidente sa MCC…Gibutang-butang ko sa pulis,” he added.
He however refused to give further comments on the case for illegal possession of firearms filed against him and the allegations that he hired Cabahug to have Cortes killed.
Cañete said his lawyers are now studying their next move and will call a press conference in due time to answer all the charges against him.
The Mandaue City Police arrested Cañete last Thursday after Cabahug squealed to a TV news crew.
