Man stabbed dead; police arrest robber

-

A man was stabbed dead by his neighbor reportedly over old grudges around 11 p.m. yesterday in sitio Alaska Proper, barangay Mambaling.

Police identified the victim as Nolito Asingua, 57, jobless and a resident of the place.

The suspect was identified by Allan Villero, 44, a machine operator of a battery company and a neighbor of the victim.

The police report revealed that the victim was standing outside their house when the suspect, armed with a bladed weapon, stabbed the victim.

Although wounded, the victim was able to run towards the house but the suspect followed and stabbed him repeatedly.

With stab wounds on his chin and left chest, the victim was rushed to the Miller Hospital by his son but was soon declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

It was found out that a year ago, the victim and the suspect had a heated argument that erupted into a fistfight.

The victim’s body now lies at the St. Francis Funeral Homes for a post mortem examination while the suspect remains at large.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old suspected robber was arrested the other night by operatives of Carbon Police and barangay tanods of Pahina Central after victimizing a jeepney passenger.

Joel Cortez, a resident at Panganiban, Pahina Central, is now detained at Carbon Police Station. Police seized from him a seven-inch knife he reportedly used during the robbery.

Alma Masangkay, 23, of D. Jakosalem Street, was about to take a ride on a jeepney along Leon Kilat Street when Cortez and a companion named “Tata” suddenly appeared and held her up.

Masangkay’s companion then grabbed the victim’s shoulder bag containing P3,000 cash and other personal belongings.

Roving policemen and barangay tanods later arrested Cortez but his companion eluded arrest. — Rizzi Ann Cerera UP-Tacloban intern and Ramil Ayuman/LPM
