Province to build 292 classrooms in 2 years

A total of 146 two-classroom buildings or 292 classrooms will soon rise in the different towns and cities in Cebu province within the next two years.

The provincial government, through its Bids and Awards Committee-Infrastructure, has invited contractors registered with and classified by the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board to apply for eligibility and bid for the construction of the said projects.

In the first district, a total of 18 units of two-classrooms buildings or 36 classrooms will be constructed which will be spread out in the cities of Talisay, Carcar and Naga and in the towns of Minglanilla, San Fernando and Sibonga.  The project is worth P12,310,211.39.

In the second district, 74 classrooms or 37 two-classroom buildings worth P25,931,481.98 will be constructed in the towns of Argao, Dalaguete, Alcoy, Boljoon, Oslob, Samboan, Malabuyoc, Alegria, Badian, Alcantara, Ronda and Dumanjug.

The towns in the third district like Barili, Aloguinsan, Pinamungajan, Balamban and Asturias as well as the city of Toledo will have 38 new classrooms worth P13,311,721.01.

Fourth district towns Tabuelan, San Remigio, Medellin, Daanbantayan, Bogo City and Tabogon will also have 36 new classrooms worth P12,818,788.39.

Still in the fourth district, Bantayan Island’s three towns Bantayan, Madridejos and Sta. Fe will also have 28 new classrooms worth P10,768,273.45.

A total of P27,882,975.91 for the 80 new classrooms will be built in fifth and sixth districts which encompasses Danao City and the towns of Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Carmen, Liloan, Compostela, San Francisco, Poro and Tudela as well as in Mandaue City and Consolacion town.

 “Construction of school building is not the primary duty of the provincial government but there is a need for us to build more classrooms since we are talking here the future of our children,” Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said.

For the past years, Garcia had completed the construction of 72 classroom buildings out of the targeted 82 classrooms buildings or 164 classrooms which is targeted to be completed in the next few months.

The construction of school buildings was made in coordination with Taiheiyo Cement Phils. Inc., the owner of Grand Cement, which donated 25,000 bags of cement for the construction of the 82 classroom buildings.  Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/BRP
