Coop office hit by fire

-

While the Cebu CFI Community Cooperative celebrated its 38th Annual General Assembly, a fire hit their office yesterday noon at the second floor of the Capitol legislative building.

The Cebu City Bureau of Fire and Protection received the alarm at about 12:03 p.m. but said they were able to control within three minutes after their arrival.

According to FO3 Antonio Gonzales the fire was believed to have started at the control box of the gate valve, which controls wire and lines, due to overheating.

Capitol building security guards Christopher Castro, Angelito Delima, Ronilo Auxtero and Jesse Getorillas said they saw smoke coming out from the office and immediately called up the fire department.

Before the firemen arrived the guards also got fire extinguishers and managed to hold off the spread of the fire.

Damage was estimated at only P10,000. Gonzales said there were no important documents or expensive equipment destroyed in the fire.   Garry B. Lao with Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
