Rains to continue in next few days

-

Those living in coastal areas and landslide-prone sites are advised to stay alert as intermittent rains and thunderstorms may continue for the next few days, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration.

Continuous rainshowers may cause flashflood and erosion in some parts of Cebu.

A low-pressure area, which resulted from the convergence of southeast and northeast winds called the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone occurred in Mindanao since Friday. It is continuously moving until it is expected to reach the Visayas.

The convergence of these two winds forces the moist air upward that causes the water vapor to condense, resulting in a heavy precipitation in the land.

As of this report, the PAGASA weather satellite is reflecting a cloudy Visayas and Mindanao that explains the rainshowers and thunderstorms in Cebu.

The weather bureau has explained that this is a natural occurrence because the month of May is a transition period from the dry to wet season.

Nevertheless, the agency assured that there are no threats of tropical cyclone looming the region. — Jessica Ann Pareja, UP mass comm intern/LPM
