Job, livelihood fairs to mark Labor Day

Job and livelihood fairs are expected to provide thousands of opportunities nationwide during the celebration of the Labor Day today.

Department of Labor and Employment Labor Secretary Marianito Roque said that simultaneous with the fairs, the DOLE will also lead the nationwide launch of the mall-based GMA Jobs Center, an information machine containing hot jobs opportunities.

The labor chief emphasized that nationwide, the 2008 Labor Day will be celebrated on the theme: “Manggagawang Pinoy: Kasangga sa Pagsulong ng Kaunlaran (Filipino worker: partner in the progress of our nation).”

At the Provincial Capitol, the Public Employment Service Office will also conduct its second local job fair for this year today.

PESO-Capitol manager Mathea Baguia said that at least 2,000 jobseekers have so far registered for the job fair while a total of 44 companies have also registered to hire more employees.

Baguia said that majority of the applicants were high school graduates and were females.

“Kay basta local job fairs, kasagaran gyud nga ma hired kay mga high school graduates because of the nature sa mga trabaho nga gi-offer,” Baguia said.

She added that there are possibilities that some jobseekers will be hired on the spot. The Capitol job fair will start at 8:00 in the morning.
