Mary Ann back to assist immigration cases in CV

Despite having eased out of the Bureau of Immigration earlier where she was accused of meddling in the affairs of the agency, controversial lady prosecutor Mary Ann Castro is back.

Castro was designated by Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales to assist in the processing of immigration cases in Central Visayas. Castro said she will be based at the Mactan Cebu International Airport.

In a text message sent to The FREEMAN, Castro said she will “assist in the processing of immigration cases thereat.” 

Aside from her, Castro said, presidential staff Reynaldo Almaden was also designated as Alien Control Officer in Central Visayas.

Although detailed at the immigration, Castro remains to be part of the national prosecution service as her mother unit.

Castro earlier created a stir at the Bureau of Immigration where she was also detailed to assist in administrative cases when she ran in conflict with several officials and employees of the agency. In fact, she had in conflict with, no less than, regional director Geronimo Rosas.

The animosity that Castro has created within the immigration office in 2006 and the allegations of her meddling in the affairs of the agency had forced Gonzales to recall her to the prosecution service. For a while she was designated as acting city prosecutor of Talisay City before she was returned to her original assignment in the Cebu City Prosecutors Office.

Castro was earlier accused of hiring a non-government worker to serve as her assistant.

The worker, identified as Normi Mante, nicknamed Ging-ging, allegedly collected notarial fees for Castro.—  Fred P. Languido/MEEV
