Police seize coco lumber, limestone

-

Police confiscated 1,800 board feet of coconut lumber and a container van full of limestone in two separate incidents in Sogod and Catmon towns, respectively, over the weekend.

The seizure was in line with their implementation of Oplan Kalikasan.

SPO2 Gualberto Flores and his team of Sogod policemen where conducting roving patrol when they saw a stockpile of coconut lumber at the seaport of barangay Tabunok.

The 146 pieces of coconut lumber totaled 1,800 board feet and would have fetched P25,000.

The police believe that the contraband was ready for transport but nobody claimed ownership of the lumber after noticing the approach of the authorities.

The lumber is now stored in the Sogod Police Station.

In Catmon town, Sr. Insp. Alvin Balio and his men stopped a ten-wheeler cargo hauler along the national highway of barangay Panalipan after noticing it had no plate number.

The truck, driven by Martin Montecillo, a resident of barangay Poblacion, Sogod, was found to contain eight cubic meters of limestone.

Montecillo failed to present necessary documents to justify his cargo and the police confiscated it.  — Garry B. Lao/BRP
