To address the issue on rice crisis, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia presented her program, “Sinanduloy Alang sa Kabusog, Sinanduloy Alang sa Kahimsog” or SAKSAK, during the meeting of the Provincial Development Council yesterday.
Instead of utilizing 100 percent rice, SAKSAK program encourages people to combine rice and camote. Garcia said it is more nutritious if rice and camote are combined.
Garcia allotted over P200,000 to cover the expenses in distribution and purchase of rice and camote, half of the amount is intended for camote.
Town mayors who were present during the meeting expressed support for the governor’s program.
In the same meeting, it was relayed that as early as May, the local government units can start distributing rice to its constituents. — Marchie Jane C. Trangia, UP Masscomm Intern/LPM
