Military holds medical mission in barangay Luz

More than 100 residents in barangay Luz availed themselves of the free medical and dental services conducted by the military’s Central Command, other government agencies and the private sector yesterday morning.

The medical mission, which was held at Barrio Luz Elementary School, included medical and dental checkups, and circumcision.

The activity was joined by medical volunteers from Mindanao State University-Iligan College of Medicine, post graduate interns from different schools, doctors led by Dr. Coco Flores, and nursing students from the University of San Jose-Recolitos.

It was also participated by the PNP-Defense Press Corps., the Philippine National Police, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and other government agencies and the private sector.

Nearly half of the beneficiaries were boys who get free circumcision, but there are some who had already registered but backed out later after seeing blood and hearing other boys lying on the table crying.

A boy of about 12 years old has lost consciousness after his circumcision and was immediately evacuated to a separate room.
Aside from the medical checkups, the Central Command dental service from the Lapu-Lapu Military Hospital led by Captain Pag-asa Ordinado attended to those with dental problems.

On the other hand, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency personnel gave lecturers on drug awareness.
Major Samuel Sagun, Central Command spokesman, told The Freeman that the activity was not just to give something to the people but was aimed to poster good relationship between the populace and the government.
