Suspected assailant named in shooting of policeman’s son

-

Police have named the suspected assailant behind the shooting of the son of Service Security Group chief Sr. Insp. Ambrosio Ibones

Homicide Section chief Insp. Mario Monilar said they are now looking for Crips gang member Oliver Jimenez, 19, of sitio Paglaum, barangay Bulacao Pardo, who allegedly shot Joseph Ibones.

Monilar said several members of the said gang accompanied by their mothers came to their office yesterday to execute affidavits.

A case of frustrated murder is set to be filed against Jimenez.

Joseph was shot in the left side of the torso after warning several youths who were stoning passing vehicles in Pardo last Sunday night.  Jimenez was among the youths.

Because of the perennial problem of minors who are members of gangs in the city, city police director Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador said he is supporting campaigns launched by barangay officials when it comes to maintaining peace and order to the city.

Comendador said he is not against implementation of curfew for minors but they must first study the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act to ensure the protection of minor offenders.

When this law was passed and ordered for implementation, Comendador complained that some provisions protected minors from criminal liability despite their willful knowledge of their actions.

Monilar said implementing curfew does not really mean arresting minors in the streets but to keep them for protective custody in their respective barangay halls.

From there, parents are asked to get their children and educate them on the curfew imposed by the barangay authorities.

“Being awake during unholy hours are not good for them,” Monilar said explaining that parents should know about this for the good health of their children.

He further said crime has two aspects, the desire to do it and the opportunity to do it.

“There would be no crime to happen when there is no opportunity,” Monilar said. — Queenie Chariz Dayanan/BRP
