Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo begins today

-

Products of the northern municipalities of Cebu will be on display as Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and her entourage of the “Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo” pays them a visit today.

The governor’s tourism program has been proven as an effective way of promoting the towns in the province.

“Suroy-Suroy’s” first stop will be Consolacion.  Mayor Avelino Gungob Sr., Vice Mayor Ember Alinsug, members of the municipal council and barangay captains are set to welcome the entourage.

Business and industrial establishments in the town will also showcase their products.

After Consolacion, the caravan will proceed to Compostela town.

Compostela Mayor Ritchie Wagas said preparations for this event started last week, recalling the success of the “Suroy Suroy sa Sugbo” in the town last year.

Wagas said Garcia has extended financial support to the town for the implementation of the different projects. He mentioned the construction of the birthing center as one of the projects.

The governor’s party will also visit Danao City and Carmen town and other towns in northern Cebu.

Liloan Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco will lead the culmination program on April 10 in front of the Liloan Municipal Hall.

More than a hundred foreign and local tourists are joining this year’s caravan.

The activity started in 2005 as a test program to encourage tourists, local and foreign, to tour the province.

Garcia said this will prove that Cebu is not only known for its beaches but for its heritage and culture as well.
