Pagasa advises public: Brace for hotter days

-

Expect the weather to get hotter the following days, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Pagasa-Mactan chief Oscar Tabada said the people must always bring with them protective gear from the sun exposure because the temperature will be rising within this month onward.

Temperature is expected to peak in the months of April and May, said Tabada as he recalled that the highest temperature ever recorded so far in Cebu this year was 32 degrees Celsius, last March 25.

The Department of Health, on the other hand, has advised people to always wear sunscreen and bring with them water when going out.

“This is to prevent heat stroke for those who are always out in the sun,” said DOH regional director Susana Madarietta.

Besides heatstroke, other illnesses such as dengue, diarrhea, colds, and sore eyes will be prevalent during this hot period, she said.

“Dengue is prevalent even on hot days so the public is advised to be always be vigilant. Diarrhea is prevalent if we don’t cook our food properly, and wash our hands,” Madarietta said.

“Don’t rub your eyes when it is itchy to avoid any infection or sore eyes,” she said. — Jasmin R. Uy/RAE
