Diving, boat rafting banned at Kawasan

There will be no more diving and boat rafting at the Kawasan Falls, says Badian town mayor Carmencita Lumain.

“Yes, effective today, we are banning boat rafting and diving at Kawasan Falls,” the mayor said yesterday after their meeting with Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and other members of the technical working group of Kawasan Falls.

Aside from this, all the 42 structures surrounding the falls will be demolished considering that they have been illegally constructed, the mayor said.

The banning of the boat rafting and diving at Kawasan Falls stemmed from the recent death of a Korean national.

Cebu Provincial Board Member Wilfredo Caminero had earlier suggested that those who refused to follow safety measures during swimming will be arrested.

“Mas maayo that the LGU must used its police power. Para kadto di magpatuo atoa gyud ipadakop. Mas maayo nga pulis gyud ang modakop di kay barangay tanod lang,” Caminero said.

Caminero added that strict safety measures must be adopted so as not to destroy the beauty of the resorts and other natural resources. —Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/LPM
