NBI, policemen have different carto sketches of suspect in Arrogante slay

-

The cartographic sketch produced by the National Bureau of Investigation of the suspect in the killing of Daanbantayan businessman Renerio Arrogante III differed from the one the police had secured earlier.

The NBI sketch of the suspect was based on the descriptions given by the victim’s wife and son who were with him when the shooting happened few weeks ago.

On the other hand, the sketch from the police was based on the descriptions given by people who were at the vicinity of the crime scene.

The victim’s son, who visited the NBI yesterday, however could not identify the suspect as he was not allegedly seen in Daanbantayan before the crime happened.

NBI investigators believe that the gunman could not have come from the town. A team led by Supervising Agent Jose Hermie Monsanto is still pursuing its own leads in the investigation.

Although the NBI cartographic sketch differed from that of the police, one of the team members said they would still use the two sketches for identification of the gunman.

The NBI conducted its own investigation into the killing of Arrogante upon the request of his family.

Arrogante, who was a bitter critic of Vice Mayor Maria Luisa Loot and her husband Sr. Supt. Vicente Loot, was shot dead by still unidentified person in the morning on March 9 while he, his wife and son were talking in front of their establishment in Poblacion, Daanbantayan.

His killing was seen by his colleagues as something political. But Mayor Sun Simura dismissed the political angle of the killing.

Simura, in an earlier interview, said there is no basis to link the killing to politics because the victim had lost in May 2007 elections.
