Capitol job fairs set on March 30, May 1

The Public Employment Service Office of the Cebu provincial government has announced that a job fair is slated on March 30 for overseas deployment and on May 1 for local employment.

These job fairs will be held at the Capitol Social Hall. Applicants are advised to bring a typewritten resumé or bio-data, college diploma/transcript of record for college graduate, 2x2 ID picture (colored or black and white), certificate of employment for those previously employed, high school diploma for high school graduates and passport/NBI clearance for overseas employment applicants.

PESO-Capitol is advising all job applicants to register at its office at the ground floor of the Capitol building as there will no more registration during the job fairs.

PESO is a non-fee-charging multi-employment service facility or entity established or accredited by the Department of Labor and Employment in local government units, state universities and private institutions, non-government organizations and community-based organizations pursuant to Republic Act 8759, otherwise known as the PESO Act of 1999.

The PESOs are linked to the regional office of the DOLE for coordination and technical supervision, and to the DOLE Central Office to constitute the National Employment Service Network.

The PESO under the office of the Cebu Provincial Governor became operational in Capitol with the signing of a memorandum of agreement on August 20, 1992. Its clients include jobseekers, employers, students, out-of-school youth, migratory workers, planners, researchers, labor market information users, persons with disabilities, returning overseas Filipino workers and displaced workers.

Meanwhile, DOLE warned anew those would-be overseas Filipino workers from working abroad without proper work visas and other legal documents. Further, it warned Filipino workers from dealing with agencies offering assistance to those who seek for jobs in Dubai without the necessary employment contracts as “workers seeking employment but are only holding tourist visas are putting themselves at great risk.”

The DOLE advisory stated that “undocumented workers are more vulnerable to abuse and exploitation since there aren’t any contracts to bind their employers with responsibilities and corresponding liabilities that usually go with legitimate employment contracts.”

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration also warned applicants not to accept offers from a certain Garcia Jose who is allegedly illegally recruiting Filipino workers for Spain through electronic mail.

The POEA advisory stated that Jose promises employment upon arrival in Spain, but the supposed job orders were found to be non-existent and that the workers would leave the country using tourist visa.

POEA further announced that Egypt is not accepting domestic helpers from other countries, including the Philippines, except those who are working for foreign diplomats, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
