Suspected robber, man who fired a gun arrested
Two men were arrested in separate incidents Thursday afternoon: One for robbing a student inside a jeepney, and the other for firing a sub-machinegun.
In the first case, PO1 Remes Goco, an policeman of the Mobile Patrol Group, was on his way home on a jeepney, passing along Archbishop Reyes Ave. in barangay Banilad, when a female passenger shouted for help at the same time a male passenger was seen disembarking quickly.
The female passenger, college student Ann Margarette Noval complained that the man who fled had stolen her cellphone. This prompted Goco to chase the fleeing suspect who was later identified as Eddie Gabasa, 27, of barangay Binaliw.
Gabasa reportedly refused to heed Goco’s order to stop, prompting the latter to shoot at the suspect. The bullet only grazed the left leg of Gabasa so he was no longer taken to the hospital. Goco, who was off-duty at the time, was able to recover the cellphone of the victim, said Chief Insp. Arnel Banzon, chief of the MPG.
In the second incident, 36-year-old Joselito Ancajas Ramirez, of barangay Kawit in Medellen, was arrested in
The policemen responded to a call for assistance from residents, complaining about Ramirez’ alleged firing of a high-powered gun.
When the police arrived, Ramirez quickly hid in his house but police found and eventually arrested him. They also confiscated from his possession an Ingram submachine pistol with live rounds, for which he failed to show the necessary documents. — Edwin Ian Melecio/RAE
