Sta. Fe brgy. Chief gets ire of Gwen

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia scolded another official, this time a barangay captain in Sante Fe, during her visit to the northern towns yesterday.

The governor was enthusiastic and beaming upon her arrival at Sta. Fe National High School but got upset later in her speech when Maricaban barangay captain Trinidad Batirzal stood up from the audience and shouted, “kuwang pa, kuwang pa.”

Batirzal was referring to the unfinished road project in her barangay and perhaps wanted the provincial government to finish it.

“Lingkud… lingkud… paminaw aron ka makasabot,” the angry governor told her over the microphone.

Garcia, still in an angry voice, immediately called on his provincial engineer, who said that the unfinished road is no longer a provincial road but a barangay road.

“Di sa ko mo atiman anang barangay roads ug ayaw ko ninyo panukta sa dili nako utang. Mas daghan pa ko og barangay nga gi-atiman ninyo,” said the governor, obviously referring to the surprised barangay captain.

The governor explained that Cebu province has a total of 607 kilometers of provincial roads and so far, only 447 kilometers were asphalted.

“Di nako hakpon ang tanan nga panginahanglan sa katawhan. Isig tubag ta sa tagsa-tagsa nato ka obligasyon. Hungitan pa ta mo, ako pa g’yud inyong pa usapon unya ako pa gyud inyo patunlon?” Garcia said.

Last Monday, Garcia also berated San Remigio councilor Antonio Villamor for asking “too much projects” during a consultative assembly. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/LPM
