The second fire incident to happen in Cebu City during Fire Prevention Month occurred yesterday dawn in a house in sitio Oprra, barangay Kalunasan.
The fire reportedly started in the garage of the house owned by Benita Albino shortly before 5 a.m. and quickly spread to the rest of the house.
Firefighters raised the incident to the second alarm and brought the blaze under control a few minutes after they arrived at the scene.
Cebu City Bureau of Fire Protection chief fire investigator Allen Arciaga said no one was hurt or killed during the incident.
Arciaga said damage was set at P150,000 as Albino’s Toyota Revo with plate number XGM-954 was destroyed.
Investigators are looking into possible electrical misuse but other angles are also being considered.
Last March 4 a shanty burned to the ground in barangay Luz, investigators are still looking into the incident.
March has been declared Fire Prevention Month because most of the fire incidents happen during this month owing to the heat.
Based on the records of the Bureau of Fire Protection-7 most of the fires are caused by electrical misuse because almost all households have appliances that require electricity.
BFP has been campaigning for fire prevention not only during March but all year round. They also organize barangay and civilian fire brigade volunteers, information drive and fire drills in different localities. — Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
