Police asset gunned down in Duljo-Fatima

-

A 44-year-old police informant was shot to death while drinking with his friends inside his house by an unidentified gunman in barangay Duljo-Fatima yesterday morning.

Homicide investigator SPO4 Alex Dacua said that the fatality, Mario Comichod, jobless but had been among the police assets, was hit in the upper part of his body and was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at the Cebu City Medical Center.

Police accounts further stated that Comichod was drinking with his friends in his house when somebody outside called him to notify about a police raid against video karera that was supposedly to take place in the area at the time.

Moments after Comichod went out of his house, the unidentified man shot him instead and immediately fled from the crime scene.

More investigation revealed that there was no police raid set at that time, and that there was really a plan to kill Comichod. Authorities who are investigating the incident further said there were reports that Comichod was also involved in illegal activities besides his being an asset of the police.

City Police director Patrocinio Comendador, in a separate interview, said he ordered for a deeper investigation, adding that he wanted to know the real motive of the killing. “That’s part of the risk of being an asset,” he said.

Meanwhile in Lapu-Lapu City the other night, the house of a policeman in barangay Bangkal was burglarized and the thieves stole from his cabinet his two service firearms, P25,000 cash, and pieces of jewelry worth P15,000.

The victim, 27-year-old PO1 Alejo Sayson, assigned at the Mandaue City Police Office, reported the burglary to the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station while he and his wife were on duty. His wife is also a police officer but assigned at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station.

Initial investigation showed that the robbers entered the house at dawn by detaching the window at the back of Sayson’s house. Further investigation of the burglary is still being conducted. — Garry B. Lao/RAE
