The rehabilitation of irrigation system in barangay Anapog in Pinamungajan town started the other day with more than 200 farmers expected to benefit from it.
Cebu third district Rep. Pablo John Garcia said the P1.7-million fund for the project is funded by the National Irrigation Administration.
Once the rehabilitation is complete, the irrigation system will serve to at least 110 hectares of farmlands in the town.
However, the farmer beneficiaries will contribute 20 percent of the fund as their counterpart. But instead of paying their share, it will be the congressman’s Priority Development Fund that would shoulder the counterpart.
Garcia said the project will help farmers improve their produce, especially that barangay Anapog, along with neighboring barangay Sagay in Toledo City, is part of Cebu’s rice center.
“Practically wala na silay bayranan. Ang ila ani kay ang kugi na lang para mas modaghan ang ilang produkto ug mas modako ang ilang income,” Garcia told The Freeman. – Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/LPM
