-

For bringing pride to Cebu province, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia will be giving financial rewards to the winning Sinulog contingents from the Alcoy, Carmen and Carcar towns.

Alcoy Siloy Festival dancers bested all contestants in the Sinulog grand parade’s free interpretation category. Yesterday, they received their P500,000 prize.

Dancers from Carmen and Pakol Festival got the best in costume award while for the first time, Carcar City Central National High School’s Silaw Culture and Arts dancers showcased their talents in street dancing.

During the awarding of the most outstanding tanods in the province at the Capitol Social Hall today, Garcia will lead the awarding of cash prizes to Alcoy (P100,000), Carmen (P50,000)  and Carcar City (P25,000).

Jeanette Malinao, Capitol consultant on electronic and mass media, told reporters that the awards are also in recognition of each town’s effort to come up with their own local festivals.

The governor was very happy with the towns’ drive in initiating their own festivals, said Malinao.

The provincial government is also very enthusiastic in the promotion of the towns’ rich cultural and historical tradition, she said. — Gerome M. Dalipe/LPM
