One dead, 2 wounded in stabbing, shooting

Away from the celebration of the Sinulog grand parade last Sunday, one man was killed while two others were injured in three separate violent incidents.

In Plaza Housing, barangay Busay, Marlon Senerpida, 30, a resident of National Housing Authority of the said barangay, never made it alive to the Cebu City Medical Center after he was stabbed eight times in the chest during an illegal cockfight.

Police identified the alleged perpetrator as Luncio Dayap, 60, a sand and gravel hauler and a resident of Upper Laguerta of the same barangay.

PO3 Buenaventura Ursaiz Jr. of the Homicide Section said the perpetrator and the victim were drinking with friends near where an illegal cockfight was being held.

According to Ursaiz, the perpetrator approached the victim and asked for a “balato” from his winnings, but the victim refused irking the perpetrator and this started an argument between them.

One of the perpetrator’s companion reportedly punched the victim in the face and this led to a brawl that was eventually dispersed by other people.

The victim went to his uncle, a certain “Amay”, who accompanied him to confront the perpetrators. But when they met the perpetrator drew out a knife and stabbed Senerpida several times.

The perpetrator and his group immediately fled while the victim was rushed to CCMC but was declared dead on arrival.

At around 10 p.m., a man was stabbed by an alleged member of a gang while watching the fireworks display at the Cebu Business Park.

Lloyd Hatosa, 23, a resident of Metabel, barangay Talamban, suffered a stab wound to the right side of the body.

According to SPO2 Jay Yballe, the incident took place at Rosales Street in barangay Luz while several groups of youngsters gathered to watch the event.

The victim was with 13 male friends and four women at that time when two of his male companions got into an argument with another group and one of the strangers pulled out a knife and stabbed Hatosa.

The victim and his friends immediately brought the victim to Perpetual Succour Hospital while the perpetrators escaped.

Around 6 a.m. yesterday, a man in sitio Buwaran of barangay Sawang Calero was shot by an alleged drug addict while looking for his friend in the latter’s neighborhood.

Samuel Calceña, 31, a resident of the said place was shot in the right side of his body by his neighbor George Abas, 30.

The victim alleged that he was looking for his friend Danilo Pundol at the said place when he suddenly noticed the perpetrator who shot him without provocation.

The victim who was rushed by Pundol to the hospital told the police he had no idea why the perpetrator shot him but claimed the perpetrator is a known drug user in their area.  — Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
