NTC advices public to be vigilant when buying cellular phones

The regional office of the National Telecommunications Commission has urged the public to be vigilant when buying cell phones and to be careful where their units are being repaired.

Bill Peralta, information officer of NTC-7, said they have been receiving complaints regarding cell phone units that have been bought along Colon Street.

Peralta said buyers should buy phone kits rather than China-made cell phones since phone kits are registered with the NTC while majority of the China phones are not.

He also added that they can not attest the durability and quality of these China-made phones.

“We are calling the attention of the public to report to us any incidents that also involve text scam and other related matters. For complains you can call our landline 345-0823 and 422-6822,” Peralta said.

“We are also calling the attention of the public to coordinate with us and let us know their problem by filing a proper complain in the NTC-7 office because we had already solve a couple of cases that includes full refund to those who had buy defective units,” he added.

The NTC-7 is also checking the permits of different cell phone shops and repair shops in the region.

It is also closely coordinating with various local government units in the region to address the problem on cell phone shops and repair shops that are not complying with the requirements.  — Phoebe Jen Indino/LPM
