“Priest” gyps couple into giving him cash

A man masquerading as a deacon set for ordination was arrested by policemen and barangay tanods last Thursday after he was accused of swindling in Barili town.

SPO3 Eduard Villaester said that Angelo Limbason claimed that he was soon to be ordained as a priest, and victimized a couple in barangay Mantalungon, Barili, of cash.

Last Wednesday, Limbason, 28, a native of Bato, Leyte,  temporarily residing in barangay Hipodromo, Cebu City, went to the house of Marcelo and Susan Abordo, both teachers at the Mantalongon National High School and asked if the couple could sponsor him because he was to be ordained

as priest and needed some financial assistance.

The couple pitied Limbason handed him a check worth P1,472 and P500 cash as well as 10 eggs.

Later that day, the couple began to get suspicious of Limbason’s honesty when they asked some neighbors in the area.  They then contacted the parish priest in Barili to ask if Limbason was set to be ordained, but it was found out that no such deacon was set for the Holy Orders.

The couple immediately called the police who arrested Limbason at a checkpoint.

After he was positively identified Limbason was detained at the Barili police station detention cell, charges for swindling are now being prepared against him.  — Garry B. Lao/BRP
