Man arrested for robbery

A man was arrested by policemen of Ronda town after he robbed a man and his granddaughter of a pail containing cash, clothes and a pair of slippers last Sunday afternoon.

Benjie Baya, a resident of barangay Cansayahon, Ronda, is now detained at the police station’s holding cell facing robbery charges after robbing Pascual Barino, 68, while on his way home.

Initial investigation conducted by the police revealed that the victim was on his way home from the river with his granddaughter, Ella Marie Ochia, six, when he saw the suspect following them.

Barino said he did not foresee anything bad happening as the man looked harmless.

After crossing the river, the suspect snatched the pail.  Barino put up a fight but the suspect hit him in the left jaw, knocking him unconscious.  The pail also held his wallet which had his P10,000 earnings from selling selling fruits and vegetables in the market.

Ella Marie revived her grandfather and together they went to the police station to report the incident.  Past 1 p.m. the police arrested the suspect in his house recovering the pair of slippers but only P171 of the P10,000.  — Garry B. Lao/BRP
