Daanbantayan resident receives House award for topping ME exam

The House of Representatives has awarded a resident of Daanbatayan town who topped the recent mechanical engineering board examination.

Cebu fourth district Rep. Benhur Salimbangon sponsored the House Resolution No. 368 expressing the congratulations and commendation of the House to Jose Jonna Chavez for topping the 2007 Board Examination for Mechanical Engineering given by Professional Regulations Commission.

Chavez, the son of councilman Juan Chavez of barangay Pajo, placed number one in the examination with the rating of 92.95 percent.

Co-sponsored of the House resolution, which was approved on December 4, were Cebuano Reps. Eduardo Gullas, Ramon “Red” Durano VI, Antonio Cuenco, Pablo John Garcia, Pablo Garcia, Nerissa Corazon Soon-Ruiz and Raul del Mar.

Salimbangon gave the award to Chavez before his speech as guest speaker during the town’s commemoration of the 111th death anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal yesterday.

Salimbangon said it was earlier proposed that House Speaker Jose de Venecia will be the one to hand over the plaque of recognition to Chavez, but the idea was overtaken by Christmas break in Congress and most of the congressmen are on vacation.

This prompted him to take advantage of the invitation as guest speaker in yesterday’s affair to hand the award over to Chavez.

Salimbangon said it is a great honor to have his constituent honored by Congress for such achievement.   — Gregg M. Rubio/LPM
