Drug suspect escapes from  cops but later surrenders

-

A suspected drug pusher from Cordova town managed to jump off the patrol vehicle bringing him to the Bureau of Jail Management facility in barangay Soong, Lapu-Lapu City, last Thursday, but he surrendered a few hours later after his relatives convinced him to.

The suspect Joseph Rosane, 18, was arrested last December 12 for selling drugs to a policeman who acted as poseur-buyer after learning of his illegal activities.  He was charged the following day for selling drugs but was able to avail of a waiver of detention as he had yet to submit his counter-affidavit.

But last Thursday, his waiver of detention lapsed and he was taken to be committed to the said jail facility.  But upon reaching barangay Poblacion Rosane jumped off the vehicle and escaped from his escort, PO1 Arnel Resente, who was also arresting officer.

According to reports, the escape was not recorded immediately in the police blotter of the said station for unknown reasons.

Reporters who called on the said station for information failed to obtain a concrete answer as policemen in the said station reportedly denied that there was a detainee who escaped, but this was countered by other residents in barangay Poblacion who said they knew Rosane personally.

In radio reports, they claimed they saw the suspect loitering at the basketball court in their barangay, but they all knew that he was supposed to be taken to jail.

An ABS-CBN news crew managed to interview the suspect’s mother who initially denied that her son came home but after few minutes of persuasion she eventually admitted that her son went home Thursday afternoon.

The suspect was persuaded by his mother to surrender later that night.   Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
