Man shoots uncle dead in fight over property

-

A 26-year-old man shot to death his uncle after their heated argument over a piece of land at sitio Datag in barangay Daan Lungsod, Alcoy Tuesday evening.

Police Officer 2 Allan Medel and PO1 Anecito Gesalago, who responded to the incident, said the fatality was Raul Antig who sustained gunshot wounds on his head and forehead while the suspected killer, Rufino Antig who was the victim’s nephew, was arrested after a manhunt.

Initial investigation showed that Raul and Rufino was first discussing about a property owned by Rufino’s father, or Raul’s brother, but this ended up in an argument.

Rufino then went home leaving Raul watching a film with his family inside their house. Raul however returned with a gun, of still undetermined caliber, and shot his uncle thrice reportedly at close range. Raul died on the spot.

Responding policemen and Scene Of The Crime personnel found the victim lying prone on floor and already dead.

After his arrest, Rufino was indicted yesterday of murder and he will be detained at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center.

Meanwhile in Dalaguete Tuesday evening, personal grudge drove 30-year-old Primo Cañales, of the town’s barangay Casay, to shoot Gwyn Solotorio, 31, of barangay Tunghaan in Minglanilla.

Dalaguete Police records stated that Solotorio was hit in his upper abdomen and was taken to the Julio Cardinal Rosales Hospital before he was moved to Chong Hua  Hospital in Cebu City.

Investigators found that Solotorio has been living in with Lilia Cañales, sister of Primo, in Minglanilla for many years already. When the two decided to go to the fiesta in Dalaguete, Lilia’s hometown, Primo’s hatred against his sister’s live-in partner was triggered. — Garry B. Lao/RAE
