Moalboal cop chief dies after accident

Inspector Gil Limosnero, police chief of Moalboal, died on Wednesday at a private hospital in Cebu City where he underwent treatment for seven days for head injuries he got in a motorcycle accident. He was 46 years old.

A report from the Cebu Provincial Police stated that the accident took place in barangay Lawaan, Talisay City last December 5.

Limosnero was riding at the backseat of the motorcycle driven by PO3 Alberto Empanado, on his way home from a meeting when the rear tire of the vehicle suddenly burst.

The motorcycle crashed, Limosnero was thrown off his seat and into the pavement causing some injuries in his head and body. Empinado was also injured.

The two were immediately taken to the Talisay City District Hospital where they were treated for scratches and abrasions. They were later discharged.

While at his home, however, Limosnero started complaining of pain in his head so he was immediately taken to the South General Hospital where physicians put him at the intensive care unit due to internal bleeding in his head.

Moalboal policemen, under Limosnero’s command, were saddened by their commander’s death. There was no statement from Limosnero’s family on his burial date.

Before Limosnero was assigned to Moalboal, he was with the Firearms Explosives Security Agencies and Guards Supervisory Section. At the time of his death, he was the president of the Front Sight Gun Club, Inc., and when he met the accident, he was going home to discuss also the club’s Christmas shoot and party.

The CPPO has yet to issue a statement on who will take in charge of the station until a new police chief is officially named. —Garry B. Lao/RAE
