GMA may visit slain cop’s wake

The unfortunate fate of PO1 Noriel Luage has reached President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who may visit his wake during her visit to Cebu tomorrow.

Cebu City Councilor Sylvan Jakosalem yesterday said the presidential staff has reportedly sought the details of Luague’s death and his residence. It was Jakosalem who channeled the information to Arroyo’s staff.

“I believe she would be interested to know that someone died in the line of duty…she might visit the wake,” Jakosalem said.

Arroyo is expected to arrive in Cebu tonight from a gathering in Masbate, and is scheduled to participate in a barangay gift-giving project tomorrow.

Luague’s body currently lies in his residence along Katipunan Street in barangay Labangon.

The bemedalled policeman was killed Monday when Ramon Jaime “Boy” Baclohan, to whom he and SPO1 Delfin Bontuyan was serving a search warrant, fired at them. The two policemen were groping for the switch in an unlighted room when Baclohan shot Luage in the face.

Bontuyan later shot Baclohan in the head after grappling with the suspect.

Luague met his death just a few hours after he received his last award, the Medalya ng Kagalingan, for his participation in the arrest of alleged notorious fraternity hitman Aristotle “Ares” Aves last December 3.  Joeberth M. Ocao/LPM
