SK leaders to choose federation head today

-

Newly-elected leaders of the Sangguniang Kabataan in Cebu City will choose today their representative to the City Council and the rest of the SK federation officers.

In an interview with The Freeman, Department of Interior and Local Government city director Patricio Gabuya said the election and oath taking of the new federation officers will cap the three-day orientation, leadership training, and team-building activities that the new SK chairpersons have underwent at the Cebu Business Hotel.

Gabuya said today’s event is synchronized throughout the country but not all new SK chairpersons have undergone the same extensive orientation and team building activities.

He said the city’s SK federation has saved enough funds to conduct an in-house orientation and training until today’s election and oath taking.

The 80 new SK chairpersons will choose today their federation president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, manager, public relations officer, and sergeant-at-arms with the supervision of the DILG city director, Commission on Elections registrar, and secretary of the City Council to ensure that proper protocol is followed.

Gabuya said the SK leaders will first elect a presiding officer and secretary, as well as a board of election canvassers. Once they are in place, nominations will be taken from the floor with each nominee will be made to speak.

Gabuya said whoever will be elected as new president of the SK federation will start to sit at the council beginning next week, replacing  outgoing SK federation president Glena Bontuyan. — Joeberth M. Ocao/LPM
