Three charged with human trafficking

-

A karaoke bar operator and two of his managers were charged with human trafficking after they were allegedly caught exploiting women, mostly minors, by offering them to customers to perform sexual acts.

Charged before the Lapu-Lapu City Prosecutors’ Office for violation of Sections 4 and 6 of the Republic Act 9208, otherwise known as the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, were Rogelio Carin, Dante Algabre and Heide Sigue.

Carin and Algabre were caught in an entrapment operation conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation last week in barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City. Sigue eluded arrest but did not escape from the charge.

The NBI raided Carin’s karaoke bar which resulted to the rescue of several women alleged to have been exploited. Two NBI agents posed as tour guides with foreign visitors looking for women to go with them on bed.

Algabre and Sigue allegedly offered to undercover agents that they have wards and even boasted that most of them are minors. An entrapment operation ensued.

Reynaldo Villordon, one of the NBI undercover agents, chose ten of the girls from the showroom while NBI agent Jedidah Hife handed the P12,000 bar fine to Carin, including the P2,000 marked money.

The rescued girls were immediately turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development. — Fred P. Languido/LPM
