City sets mass oathtaking of elected brgy, SK officials

-

The city government has scheduled a mass oathtaking of newly-elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials of Cebu City at the Rizal Memorial Museum on Osmeña Boulevard on November 22 and 23, Thursday and Friday.

The oath-taking of the officials of the 46 barangays of the north district will be on November 22 while those of the 34 barangays in the south district will be on November 23. Each day’s schedule will be from 8am to 5pm.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña will administer the oaths of the new barangay officials whose term of office will begin by noon of November 30.

Except those who have been known to belong to the opposition, all of the invited new officials have already sent their confirmation to attend the oathtaking ceremony, which will be done by batches of four barangays at a time.

Barangay leaders identified with the opposition, namely Lahug barangay captain Mary Ann delos Santos, Poblacion Pardo’s Danilo Lim, Cogon Pardo’s Eugenio Gabuya, and Sambag II’s Gerry Guardo were also invited but the city has not received yet the response from them.

Not all of the newly elected officials however will join the mass oathtaking because some of them have already taken their oath before Mayor Osmeña at the City Hall earlier.

These are the officials of barangays Tejero, Adlaon, Kasambagan, Mabolo, Pahina Central, Kalunasan, and Banilad.

Meanwhile, the Department of Interior and Local Government announced that the election of officials of the Liga Ng Mga Barangay in the municipal, city, and provincial levels shall be conducted 30 days after the assumption of offices of the new barangay officials.

DILG’s legal services director Jose Emeterio Moreno made this clarification after his office received some queries over the issue of elections of Liga officials in every level. — Wenna A. Berondo/RAE
