In Lapu-Lapu City: 2 killed in shooting, stabbing incidents

Two people were killed during two separate incidents in less than an hour in barangays Maribago and Pajo in Lapu-Lapu City early dawn yesterday

Ronello Igot Hiyas, 38, a tricycle driver, was shot and killed while walking together with his cousin in Looc, Maribago past 1 a.m.

Less than an hour later, 27-year-old Kim Abrenica was stabbed dead while sleeping inside his rented room along New Road Sangi.

PO3 Manolito Abellanosa said they would be inviting Hiyas' cousin, Frankie Garciano, to shed light over the killing because he was last seen together with the victim after a drinking spree.

However, Hiyas’ wife, Evelyn, suspected Garciano of being one of those responsible for the killing of his husband.

"Nagduda gyud ko nga apil gyud na siya (Frankie) kay nagduda na siya nga ang akong bana maoy nipadakop sa iyang igsuon," Evelyn said.

She said Garciano had bought a .45 pistol to kill the person involved in the arrest of his younger brother, Rene, in relation to an illegal drug trade.

"Maglisod pa ta og confirm ana kun related to drug pero dili nato i-discount ang possibility," Abellanosa said.

Meantime, police authorities are also preparing to file a murder complaint against Duke Pena, 27, who was accused of stabbing Abrenica to death.

"Gisuyaan ra gyud to siya (Abrenica)," said Emoy Javido, a witness to the crime. - Ramil V. Ayuman/LPM
