Junnie defends crime task force

-

Bogo City Mayor Celestino “Junnie” Martinez, Jr. defended the creation of a task force whose primary job is to coordinate with and assist the police in going against criminals in the city.

Martinez said the lack of policemen has prompted the city government to create the Bogo City Anti-Crime Task Force to bolster the police’s campaign against all form of criminalities.

Earlier, there were concerns that the function of the task force may duplicate the city police’s work.

Martinez said the idea to create the task force was hatched after they noticed the lack of police personnel in the new city. He added that when it was converted into city, Bogo has begun to need additional police personnel.

He admitted that while waiting the approval of their request for additional police personnel, they looked for other initiatives and that the creation of the task force is one of them.

The mayor said the members of the task force have been assigned in different parts of the city, especially in areas where big business establishments are located.

Martinez even gladly announced that within 100 days of the task force’s establishment, its members have already made some accomplishments. He said a number of thieves, snatchers, robbers and other criminals were arrested by the task force.

Bogo City Police Station chief Arturo Pacifico told The Freeman that they have welcomed the creation of the task force given the lack of personnel under his command.

However, he said the function of the task force is only to coordinate with their office on operations against criminality. — Jose P. Sollano/LPM
