Cebu City Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador yesterday expressed gladness over the City Council’s resolution approving the giving of commendation to the city policemen who arrested a big-time drug pushing suspect last week.
Comendador said the commendation would be a morale booster to his men that would motivate them more to continue doing their best in performing their duties.
He said he would be sending a copy of this commendation to the Police Regional Office-7 so that it would also confer awards that these policemen deserve.
Comendador added that he hoped PRO-7 would give medals to his men to enable them to gain points for their promotions because these medals could also be converted into cash during their retirement.
The policemen deserve medal higher in worth than the merit medal because their arrest of suspected level-1 drug pusher was the biggest catch of the City Police so far this year.
Calunsag, who has been in the watch list of the police, has been considered a big-time drug pusher here in the city and one who could dispose of more than a kilo of shabu weekly.
Members of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau, headed by Sr. Insp. George Ylanan, the SWAT and the MPG, led by Supt. Paul Labra, arrested Calunsag inside a house on J. Fortich Street at sitio Banawa in barangay Guadalupe last week.
The arresting officers also seized from Calunsag half kilo of shabu with an estimated street value of P2 million, cash close to P1 million, and a .357 caliber gun.
Also arrested was his househelp Marissa Tripoli who was caught in the act of packing shabu.
Police said that the arrest of Calunsag has direly affected the supply of shabu in barangays Pasil and Ermita. — Flor Z. Perolina/RAE
