14 new dengue cases recorded in Samboan

Dengue is confirmed  to still be prevalent in the town of Samboan where the Department of Health recorded an increase in the number of cases this month.

DOH Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit nurse Reynan Cimafranca said that from January to September, five cases were recorded there. However, 14 new cases and one death were recorded this month.

But that doesn’t make Samboan a hotspot yet, Cimafranca said.

“There is only a cluster of cases, but we would like to prevent the disease before the figures will rise even more,” he added.

It was also confirmed that Poblacion is the much affected area with victims ranging from five to 11 years old.

He added that so far, DOH already carried out an entomologic survey in the area and checked the possible breeding grounds of mosquitoes.

Cimafranca also said that they have already conducted a chemical impregnation in the affected area to kill mosquitoes.

He reminds as well the public that DOH is still recommending the “4S” to fight dengue - search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, observe self-protection measures, seek early treatment, and say no to indiscriminate fogging. — Jasmin R. Uy/MEEV
