Zaspa to face another criminal case in court

-

Another criminal case befell upon controversial Sta. Fe politician Domingo Zaspa after he was recently exonerated from a murder charge in the killing of his political rival in the last May elections.

Cebu provincial prosecutor Pepita Jane Petralba approved the filing in court of a charge of reckless imprudence resulting to less serious physical injuries against Zaspa.

The prosecutor then advised Zaspa to post P6,000 bail for his temporary liberty.

The new case came from a complaint filed by Lourdes Rivera, one of the guests at Zaspa’s Buyong Beach Resort in Sta. Fe.  Rivera accused Zaspa of negligence when she was zapped by a live wire installed in the resort’s fence that almost caused her death. There were no warning signs for the guests to take precautions about the live wire installation, she said.

Zaspa had so far denied he was negligent in warning people of the installation, saying that Rivera was even informed beforehand by the owner of the adjacent resort where she used to stay.

Investigating prosecutor Joseph Berciles however dismissed Zaspa’s defense contending that it was a matter of defense that could best be appreciated by the court.

Zaspa’s murder case before was in connection with the killing of his mayoralty rival, Rogelio Illustrisimo Sr., who was a former mayor of the town. The case was eventually dismissed for lack of evidence. — Fred P. Languido/RAE
