Guard arrested for gun used his friend’s name

-

A fourth-year engineering student went to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Branch of the city police to clear his name after a security guard who was arrested last Saturday for illegal possession of firearms and violation of the Commission on Elections gun ban used his name to identify himself to the police.

Marjune Quiñanola, 22, told The Freeman that he was surprised when his mother scolded him after his name came out in the local newspaper being arrested for illegal possession of firearms along Colon Street.

He was then informed by other neighbors that his friend Muin Salicala, 21, was arrested in and is detained at the Carbon Police Station.

When he visited him last Sunday afternoon he asked the duty police officer if they have a detainee named Muin Salicala, but he was told that the only person in the detention cell is a security guard named Marjune Quiñanola.

Upon hearing this, he immediately went to see the man inside the cell and learned that it was Salicala who used his name.

Salicala was arrested Saturday midnight along Colon Street after he was spotted by PO1s Armand Pacaña and Jodan Batucan holding a revolver. He was then taken into police custody after failing to show pertinent documents for the gun.

Pacaña said Salicala introduced himself as Marjune Quiñanola and worked as a security guard, but failed to show any ID to prove it.

‘Nahibulong nalang ko kay giingnan ko sa akong mga kaila nga naa daw ko sa newspaper. Ang akong mama nasuko nako mao ‘tong niadto ko sa Carbon,” Quiñanola said.

He added that he met Salicala in 2005 because the latter lived near the house of his girlfriend while he was still a security guard until 2006.

A few months ago, Salicala asked him to lend him his uniform and did not hesitate since he was his friend, but later on he learned that Salicala did not only use his uniform but also his name while rendering duty as a security guard.

Salicala, however, denied this claiming that he was already planning to change the name patch of the said uniform because he is already starting to submit his information sheet to their security agency.

Ylanan said aside from the violation of the Comelec gun ban and Republic Act 8294 or illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions, Salicala will also be charged for violating Article 178 of the Revised Penal Code for using a fictitious name and concealing his true name. — Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
