PDEA-7 nabs 2 suspected drug pushers in Naga City

Two suspected drug pushers fell to authorities Saturday afternoon when they were about to deliver two packs of shabu to an undercover agent of the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency-7 in barangay Tuyan in Naga City.

PDEA agents led by Levi Ortiz arrested 28-year-old Ricky Pekit-Pekit of barangay Pit-os in Cebu City, and 55-year-old William Blanco, also of Cebu City.

The suspects were supposed to deliver the packs of shabu, reportedly worth P40,000, to a PDEA agent and an informant when they noticed some people they suspected to be PDEA agents watching them.

This prompted the suspects to throw quickly the packs of shabu and flee onboard their blue motorcycle towards the south.

The PDEA operatives gave chase and caught up with the suspects in barangay Tuyan of the city.

Blanco, who was on the backseat of the motorcycle, immediately surrendered to the police officers but Bontia, after dismounting from the vehicle, tried to escape.

This caused a commotion and bystanders in the area helped the officers to chase Bontia, thinking that he was a robber. They finally caught Bontia and mauled him in the process.

The policemen arrived and took the suspects to the Naga City Police Station for coordination and to the Minglanilla District Hospital to have them treated.

The two packs of shabu and the blue motorcycle (plate number GU-7830) are now in the custody of the PDEA while a charge for violation of RA 9165 will be filed against the suspects.   —Flor Z. Perolina/RAE
