Roderos wants policemen to improve their English
A day after his assumption of his new post, Police Regional Office-7 director Ronald Roderos has ordered his men to improve their way of speaking and writing English.
“Dapat mag-improve tayo, especially sa mga reports and communications. (Any error) is no longer excusable,” said Roderos, who has been known since he was the Cebu City Police director in 2000 to be critical of the manner his men wrote or speak the English language.
Roderos told his men that he would no longer allow police or spot reports that could not be understood because these would serve as the bases of proceedings in investigations and in court.
Bad English would affect the image of the Philippine National Police on accuracy and transparency in its work, he said.
“Even high school students nowadays know how to write English communications very well; tayo pa kaya na four-year college course ang natapos,” Roderos said.
Republic Act 8551, or the PNP Modernization Law, mandates that every police applicant must have finished a four-year degree and the Basic Recruit Course.
Roderos said that PRO-7 would soon have a program, or a refresher course, to help the policemen in the region improve their English. — Ferliza C. Contratista/RAE
