Man in failed shooting of Barili cop arrested

-

A man who was tagged in last week’s failed shooting of a cop assigned in Barili town was arrested by elements of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Branch the other night in barangay Banilad, Mandaue City.

Senior Insp. George Ylanan, chief of the CIIB, identified the suspect as Randy Adlawan. Seized from him was a loaded .45 cal. pistol.

In previous reports, Adlawan was accused of drug pushing. He was said to be a subject of a buy-bust operation conducted by PO2 Michael Cortes along with a civilian identified as Robert Aldemita last Thursday afternoon in barangay Mantalongon, Barili.

Police said he fought back, shot the cop but missed, and made good of his escape.

Ylanan told reporters that after that, they received reports from their informants regarding his presence in his house at sitio Orel, barangay Banilad.

Ylanan and his men went to the area and ordered PO1 Noriel Luage and SPO1 Alfredo Petallar to approach Adlawan who was then sighted standing outside of his house.

Petallar said they asked Adlawan on his alleged involvement in the failed shooting of a policeman in Barili, but the suspect reportedly ran towards the interior portion of the area prompting the police to chase him.

Police said they already noticed that Adlawan had a gun tucked in his waist. Still, they went after him until they had him cornered in one of the houses.

Other policemen immediately surrounded the suspect, subdued him and seizedhis Colt .45 cal. pistol loaded with a magazine full of bullets and an extra magazine with six live ammunitions.

Adlawan failed to show pertinent documents or Comelec gun ban exemption for owning and bringing a gun, hence the arrest.

When interviewed by reporters, Adlawan denied the allegation and claimed it was Cortes and his civilian companion who poked a gun on him.

He said he was later on surprised upon learning that a story was made against him, accusing him of trying to kill a town cop.

The CIIB will be filing charges against Adlawan for violation of the Comelec gun ban and illegal possession of firearm. — Edwin Ian Melecio/MEEV
