Bogo to regulate structural growth

The Bogo City government is eyeing to regulate the establishment of residential and commercial buildings, citing the present growth of population and boost of trade and business.

Bogo City, which was created earlier this year, is the center for trade and commerce in the north of Cebu and has easy access to other provinces such as Samar, Leyte and those of the Bicol region.

Recently, the Bogo City Council approved an ordinance regulating the number of residential, commercial and other buildings in the city, which was authored by Councilor Lyndon Acusar.

The ordinance has been referred to the Provincial Board committee on laws for final approval before it is implemented.

“Considering the current growth of population and robust trade and business in Bogo, there is the equilateral need to properly and systematically locate structures, business establishments and residences,” the proposed ordinance read.

Under the ordinance, it also suggested that organized and methodical house numbering serves as an effective tool for locating personalities, buildings, offices and residences during delivery of mail, parcel and money.

Acusar cited Section 447 of the Local Government Code, which mandates the city council to regulate residential, commercial and other buildings within its territory.

Former mayor Celestino “Tining” Martinez III said that two local major investors and other investors were just waiting for the passage of the law converting the town into a city by virtue of Republic Act 9390.

“For sure benefits will come and hopefully by next year we can see the results,” Martinez said.

The incumbent mayor of the city is Tining’s father, Celestino “Junnie” Martinez Jr.

So far, the city has more than 200 business establishments, including a fast-food chain outlet, mall and a department store. — Garry B. Lao/BRP
